How it works

ACD Stomach 1

Take AlphaFibe Advanced® with a normal sized meal containing fat.

ACD Stomach 2

AlphaFibe Advanced® quickly surrounds the fat forming a tight complex, while Raspberry Ketones begins to shrink any existing fat cells and naturally suppresses your appetite.

ACD Stomach 3

AlphaFibe Advanced® passes the unabsorbed fat out of the body without unwanted side-effects, while Green Coffee Bean enhances your metabolism and reduces carb cravings.

We cannot absorb fat without it being digested first.

In the small intestine, a digestive enzyme called lipase processes fat droplets into smaller fragments called fatty acids. These fatty acids are absorbed, then reassembled within the body to form fat. During the process of digestion, AlphaFibe® coats the fat in a meal and interrupts its absorption.

When AlphaFibe® surrounds and coats the fat, it becomes resistant to the lipase activity, and the fat cannot be absorbed. Instead, the fat passes unabsorbed through the intestines and is eliminated as waste without undesirable side effects.

AlphaFibe® causes an increase in adiponectin, the key weight loss hormone in our body that breaks down fat and reduces the undesirable effects of insulin. This allows the user to store less fat and feel full longer. Two capsules consumed with each meal or snack can eliminate up to 500 fat calories a day. You do not need to follow a special diet since the “Smart Target” fat absorption action of AlphaFibe® makes your body think it is on a diet. The more you use AlphaFibe® the longer your body will be in a natural diet mode.

FAQs

Our research estimates that, when used as directed, Alpha‑Fibe® will support an average weight loss of 1 to 1½ lbs. per week based on a diet providing 2000 calories per day with the typical percentage of fat intake.

Use of Alpha‑Fibe® as directed, stopped the trend of average weight gain of 1 kg. per month (±0.4 kg.) in obese type 2 diabetic participants in a double blind human clinical study. In another human clinical study, Alpha‑Fibe® demonstrated proven weight loss results and other health benefits in normal healthy male and female individuals who supplemented daily with Alpha‑Fibe®.

In addition, their blood lipid levels also improved without changing exercise patterns and without receiving any dietary counseling. (Please visit our scientific research page for more information about this human study).

Although your results may vary, Alpha‑Fibe® helps many people reach their desired weight, and has already helped quite a few men and women lose over 60 pounds during a 3 month period, when taken as directed.

The active fiber ingredient in Alpha‑Fibe®, Alpha-Cyclodextrin (ACD®), requires a demanding purification process to separate it from the other natural cyclodextrins found with it, which do not bind fats as efficiently. The unique porous structure of this fiber molecule allows alpha-cyclodextrin to both dissolve in water and attract fats. This enables Alpha‑Fibe® to trap dietary fat, at 9 to 10 times its own weight, like a super-efficient sponge, soaking up dietary fat as it sweeps through the human digestive tract.

Bio-Form Essentials was the original company to bring ACD®, this unique smart fiber, to the worldwide market back in 2007.

The “Alpha‑Fibe®” name serves as a simple reference to its unique natural fiber ingredient Alpha-Cyclodextrin (ACD®). Bio-Form Essentials “Alpha‑Fibe®” is the original Alpha-Cyclodextrin (ACD®) fiber product introduced to the public back in 2007.

FBCx stands for "Fat Binding Complexer" and we have used this acronym as part of our product name in the past. FBCx is not an ingredient, only an acronym, and is not part of the scientific name of the active fiber ingredient Alpha-Cyclodextrin.

Recently, Dr.OZ spoke about the benefits of Alpha-Cyclodextrin on his show but goofed by mentioning the FBCx acronym instead of the true acronym for Alpha-Cyclodextrin which is (ACD®). This caused confusion among his viewers and prompted Congressional hearings where he was required to appear to explain himself and why he was misinforming consumers.

To avoid further consumer confusion, and to cooperate with Congress regarding their concerns on providing correct information to consumers, we have stopped using the FBCx acronym with our product name and are only using the true acronym ACD®, when referring to the Alpha-Cyclodextrin fiber ingredient.

Alpha‑Fibe® forms of very stable large particles of triglyceride (dietary fat) coated with alpha-cyclodextrin—electrically charged clusters of molecules known as micelles.

This produces a waxy emulsion made up of the alpha-cyclodextrin/fat complex which resists the activity of lipase—the enzyme which breaks down fat for absorption.

The strong physical attraction of the complex reduces the bioavailability of fats in those particles, to the point that normal intestinal bacteria do not appear to metabolize the alpha- cyclodextrin/fat complexes coming from the small intestine.

Alpha‑Fibe® has a superior fat-absorbing ability of 9 times its weight in relation to the amount of fat consumed at a meal compared with Chitosan. So 1 gram of Alpha‑Fibe® will absorb 9 grams of saturated fats.

The fat-absorbing capability of Chitosan is only about 1 time its weight. Alpha‑Fibe® is a fiber derived from natural grains whereby Chitosan is derived from shellfish which is a known allergen in humans.

Bio-Form Essentials was the first company to research & bring Alpha-Cyclodextrin (ACD®) to the worldwide supplement market back in 2007. In addition, an extensive Human Clinical Trial was funded by us back in 2010 yielding very favorable results. We were also the first company to receive EU supplement approval for Alpha-Cyclodextrin (ACD®) fiber back in 2008.

The Life Extension brand concept of a chewable tablet form for this unique fiber makes no sense at all. There is no reason to put this fiber in a chewable tablet, which when chewed, has most of the fiber ingredient absorbed through the sublingual mucous membranes which lead directly into the bloodstream.

The benefits of this unique fiber, found in our product Alpha‑Fibe®, only take place in the stomach where it absorbs 9 times its weight in fat from the foods you eat. That is why Bio-Form comes in a fast acting capsule form, so more of this valuable fiber’s benefits can be made available in the stomach quicker after a meal.

The smart slimming weight loss properties of Alpha‑Fibe® are activated only when it comes in contact with fat. So you should not follow a low-fat diet when using Alpha‑Fibe®, Alpha‑Fibe® needs fat to be effective. When taking Alpha‑Fibe® with regular meals or snacks, using 6 capsules a day, this special fiber raises your key weight loss hormone adiponectin. This process makes your body believe it is on a diet and allows your body to start burning excess fat you do not need. One of our Human research studies clearly shows the people who lost weight on Alpha‑Fibe®, did not follow a low-fat or low calorie diet.

Belly

Recent news on the risks of having too much belly fat reminds us that there are more reasons to get in shape than just appearance!

A new international study found that men and women with larger waists are more likely to die younger from a wide array of illnesses such as heart disease, respiratory problems, and cancer. The study was managed by a Mayo Clinic researcher and is published in the March 2016 edition of Mayo Clinic Proceedings.

The researchers collected data from 11 different studies that included more than 600,000 people from around the world. They concluded that men with waists 43 inches or greater in circumference have a 50 percent higher mortality risk than men with waists less than 35 inches, while women with waist circumferences of 37 inches or greater have an approximately 80 percent higher mortality risk than women with waist circumference2 of 27 inches or less.

They also found that this risk increased 7 percent in men and about 9 percent in women for every 2 inches of greater circumference. This happened even among people who had normal body mass index levels!

Belly

Men tend to have more belly fat than women from an earlier age, which may be why men have more coronary disease than women.

After menopause, women’s fat settles in the belly and increases the risk of death from heart disease and breast, uterine, cervical, colon and kidney cancers.

Why does belly fat have such a great impact on your health? The fat you see on your stomach indicates the development of deep visceral belly fat…the fat that grows close to organs such as your kidneys and liver. This is why when you develop belly fat, you want to concentrate on full-body weight loss and include exercises that tone and tighten your abs.

  1. Drop your intake of processed food, refined baked goods and sweets and focus on fruit, vegetables, nuts, lean meats, fish, whole grains and beans.
  2. Good nutrition is a vital part of getting rid of that belly fat… as is physical activity, which leads to an even greater percentage of loss of the visceral, intra-abdominal fat.
  3. Healthy fats not only lower cholesterol and prevent food cravings, they also increase fat burning. Olive oil, flaxseed oil and avocados help prevent insulin spikes. Sesame, sunflower and safflower oil are thought to have significant fat-burning qualities.
  4. Cardiovascular workouts will help burn the fat. Start with 20 to 30 minutes three days a week on nonconsecutive days, then work towards longer and higher intensity workouts.
  5. Weight training helps build active muscle mass. Like cardio training, start with 20 to 30 minute workouts three days a week and aim towards higher intensity and longer workouts. Do your weight training on the days you’re NOT doing your cardio workouts.
  6. Take AlphaFibe® with every meal to absorb bad unhealthy fats from the foods you eat and provide safe & healthy weight loss, cholesterol, & blood sugar levels.

Spring

As the temperatures become milder and spring weather calls us to enjoy the world around us, we begin our summer fitness routines…and what better way to kick off the season than with daily walks! Walking is a great, low-impact exercise that comfortably takes you into a highly improved level of fitness.

It’s a simple, everyday activity for most people and offers many health benefits. If you’re looking for a convenient way to improve your health, walking may be the answer. How can walking improve your health…please read below:

  • Reduce symptoms of depression. In one study, walking for 30 minutes, three to five times per week for 12 weeks reduced symptoms of depression by 47%.
  • Reduce the risk of colon cancer. Many studies have shown that exercise can prevent colon cancer. Exercise also has been shown to improve the quality of life and reduce mortality for colon cancer patients.
  • Prevent type 2 diabetes. The Diabetes Prevention Program reports that walking 150 minutes per week and losing just 7% of your body weight can reduce the risk of diabetes by 58%. Pretty sweet!
  • Improve brain function. Researchers found that women who walked at an easy pace (2 miles per hour) at least 1 1/2 hours per week had significantly better cognitive function and less cognitive decline than women who walked less than 40 minutes per week at the same pace. Literally food for thought!
  • Strengthen the heart. Mortality rates among retired men who walked less than one mile per day were nearly twice that among those who walked more than two miles per day in one study. Women in the Nurse’s Health Study who walked three hours or more per week reduced their risk of a heart attack or other coronary event by 35% compared with women who did not walk.
  • Strengthen bones. Studies have indicated that postmenopausal women who walk approximately one mile each day have higher whole-body bone density than women who walk shorter distances.

Walking three times a week for 30 minutes at a time can significantly increase cardio-respiratory fitness. A study of sedentary women concluded that short brisk walks —three 10-minute walks per day –were as effective in decreasing body fatness as long bouts and offered similar overall fitness.

The Surgeon General recommends 30 minutes or more of accumulated moderate intensity physical activity on five or more days per week to improve health and fitness. Accumulated means you can do it in shorter routines throughout the day. Moderate intensity is indicated by a feeling of warmth and being slightly out of breath.

Walking is the most popular activity among members of the National Weight Control Registry. The NWCR is a list of 5,000 men and women who have maintained a 30-pound weight loss for a minimum of one year. The current average weight loss among NWCR members is 60 pounds and the average time that loss has been maintained is about five years!!

Eat Fiber

There are many types of fiber you can retain health benefits from. Fiber helps keep you feel full longer and diets high in fiber are associated with lower body weight. Higher fiber intake is associated with a lower absorption of calories and favorable effect on gut flora both which have been linked to weight loss.

But there's interesting new research that explains why fiber is such a miracle worker…and it's all due to a substance called acetate. A recent study found that after you eat fiber, your body produces a substance called acetate, which changes your brain cells that control hunger. In the study, researchers gave some a high-fiber diet while giving others a regular diet. They found that the high-fiber group had more acetate in their guts than the others and concluded that this could be why eating more fiber helps you feel full for a longer period of time.

It makes sense to eat a wide variety of foods that are high in fiber. Fiber found in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and beans are good choices. Eat your fruit and vegetables with their skins to get the maximum amount of fiber from that food.

AlphaFibe® is the only “Smart Fiber” known and proven to have special properties and many positive effects on your health. Just 2 capsules at each meal can absorb 162 fat calories from the foods you eat, balance your blood sugar, and lower bad cholesterol all at the same time. This new “Smart Fiber” has favorable effects also in the gut and is proven to provide healthy weight loss.

Capsules are easily digested & provide fast and complete absorption allowing for maximum results and benefits.

Bio-Form Essentials provides AlphaFibe® in “superior capsule formulation” to all its customers wishing to achieve maximum weight loss and health benefits. AlphaFibe® “Smart Target Slimming Fiber” exclusively contains Alpha-Cyclodextrin (ACD®) fiber in superior 100% pure fast-acting capsule form.

Fiber Bread

As many as 86% of Americans do not include enough fiber in their diets, this is a serious problem. The American Dietetic Association states that when populations consume more dietary fiber, chronic disease levels are lower. They recommend eating 14 grams of dietary fiber per 1,000 calories — 25 grams per day for adult women and 38 grams per day for adult men. The average daily intake of dietary fiber in the United States is only just 14 grams per day.

The dietary fiber found in plant foods has two main components: soluble fiber that is easily converted into gases, and insoluble fiber that absorbs water as it moves through the digestive system. Both soluble and insoluble fibers are necessary for a healthy dietary regimen! Recent research concluded that middle-age and younger adults who include high amounts of fiber in their diets are less likely to suffer from heart disease over their entire lives, while many other studies show that high-fiber diets lead to lower rates of high blood pressure, obesity and high cholesterol along with many other benefits.

Research by the Archives of Internal Medicine conducted in February, 2001 included 388,000 adults ages 50 to 71 and concluded that consuming the recommended amount of dietary fiber can extend life by up to 9 years. It lowers the risk of death from heart disease. It reduces the incidence of infectious and respiratory illness. It has also been shown to lower the risk of certain cancers, particularly among males… and fiber is simple to include in your daily regimen.

Foods rich in fiber include whole grain breads and cereals, fruits and vegetables, legumes and almonds. You can increase the amount of fiber you consume easily with some simple adjustments to your current nutritional regimen. High-fiber foods are necessary for your health, but adding too much, too quickly can promote intestinal gas, abdominal bloating and cramping. Increase fiber in your diet gradually over a period of a few weeks. That will allow the natural bacteria in your digestive system to adjust to the change. Drink plenty of water, as all fibers work best when they absorb water.

A Special “Smart Fiber” has now been developed called AlphaFibe®, which targets and absorbs the bad fats in your diet while leaving the good fats alone.

  • AlphaFibe® works best with foods containing a normal amount of fat and with a standard diet of 3 meals a day.
  • Begin use with just one capsule at each meal for the first week, so your body can adjust.
  • After the first week, take 2 capsules after each meal, and be sure to drink a glass of water (8oz. minimum).
  • For foods or snacks containing a high amount of fat, more capsules should be taken.
  • Use the  Meal Examples as a guide to help determine the proper number of capsules you should take.
  • For maximum weight loss benefit, do not consume a low fat diet and do not add additional calories to the amount you are already consuming.

Clinical Research

BACKGROUND:

This single center, double-blinded, cross-over, placebo controlled clinical trial was performed in 2016 by the US National Institutes of Health, and investigated the effect of oral α-cyclodextrin (ACD®), a soluble dietary fiber, on blood lipid and lipoprotein levels in healthy human subjects. ACD® forms a hydrophobic central cavity that binds lipids and has been shown in animal studies and in previous clinical trials to alter plasma lipid levels. ACD® is a cyclical polymer containing 6 glucose subunits and is currently sold as a food supplement known as AlphaFibe.

In the present study, we examined in a randomized cross-over placebo-control design the effect of oral ACD® in a relatively healthy control population without diabetes and or obesity to determine if ACD® supplementation could have broader health benefits in the general population. The primary outcome variable was plasma total cholesterol but other measures related to lipid and glucose control were also assessed.

METHODS:

Healthy subjects, males and females between ages 18 to 75 were screened. Out of total 103 subjects interviewed, 75 subjects completed the study. Qualified individuals in each gender group were randomized into two groups in terms of which treatment arm they received first (placebo vs. ACD®, receiving 6 grams P.O. a day, for 12–14 weeks with a 7 day wash out between arms). The primary outcome variable plasma total cholesterol, as well as other tests related to lipids and lipoprotein and glucose metabolism was measured at baseline and at the end of each arm of the study.

RESULTS:

ACD® was well tolerated; no serious adverse events related to ACD® were observed. Approximately 8 % of the subjects on ACD® complained of minor gastrointestinal symptoms versus 3 % on placebo (p=0.2). Small-LDL particle number decreased 10 % (p<0.045) for subjects on ACD® versus placebo. Fasting plasma glucose (1.6 %, p<0.05) and Insulin resistance index (11 %, p<0.04) were also decreased when on ACD® versus placebo.

CONCLUSION:

ACD® supplementation appears to be safe and well tolerated in healthy individuals and showed a reduction in small LDL particles, and an improvement in glucose related parameters.

Study was performed at the US National Institutes of Health Clinical Center, Maryland

Summary:

Healthy adults consumed an egg and sausage breakfast muffin, then hade their blood tested with and without supplementing with alpha-cyclodextrin (ACD®) fiber. This study tested healthy adults at a range of weights and ages, and for the first time documented postmeal responses to a common, commercially available fat-containing meal.

In a double blind, placebo-controlled, crossover trial conducted in 2013, 34 healthy adults (28 female, 6 male) were given a commercially available breakfast sandwich as their first meal of the day, along with 8oz. of bottled water. The sandwich contains 26g of fat. They consumed the meal within 10 minutes, followed by immediate ingestion of ACD® tablets. Blood triglyceride levels, which ordinarily rise after highfat meals, remained in the normal range in the post-meal blood profiles for the ACD® group with triglyceride levels falling 15-20% at the 1 and 2 hour marks, and nearly 50% lower at the 3 hour mark. Furthermore, ACD® ingestion was associated with the positive effects of increasing insulin and leptin sensit ivities. The placebo group showed no such reduction in blood triglyceride levels after 3 hours.

Conclusion:

This human clinical study showed that taking 2g of ACD® with a fat-containing meal supported healthy postmeal blood triglycerides. ACD® was shown to be effective in decreasing the absorption of triglycerides into the bloodstream in the 3 hours following the meal. The effectiveness of ACD® in supporting healthy blood triglycerides and glycemic response confirms its beneficial effects in adult men & women.

Summary:

A 2012 study, conducted on the effects of Green Coffee Bean Extract was performed by Dr. Joseph Vinson, a Chemistry Professor at The University of Scranton, Pennsylvania. He studied the effects of Green Coffee Bean Extract on 16 overweight subjects over a 22 week period.

Background:

The World Health Organization predicts there will be 2.3 billion overweight adults in the world by 2017, and more than 700 million of them will be obese. Worldwide obesity has more than doubled since 1980. In 2008, 1.5 billion adults, 20 years of age and older, were overweight. Of these, over 200 million men and nearly 300 million women were obese. Adult weight gain and obesity have become worldwide problems. Issues of cost and potential side effects of prescription weight loss drugs have led overweight and obese adults to try nutraceuticals that may aid weight loss. One promising nutraceutical is green coffee extract, which contains high concentrations of chlorogenic acids that are known to have health benefits and to influence glucose and fat metabolism. A 22-week crossover study was conducted to examine the efficacy and safety of green coffee extract (GCB) at reducing weight and body mass in 16 overweight adults.

Methods:

Subjects received GCB (Green Coffee Bean Extract) or placebo in separate six-week treatment periods followed by two-week washout periods to reduce any influence of preceding treatment. Treatments were counterbalanced between subjects. Primary measurements were body weight, body mass index, and percent body fat. Heart rate and blood pressure were also measured.

Results:

Significant reductions were observed in body weight (−8.04 ± 2.31 kg), body mass index (−2.92 ± 0.85 kg/m2), and percent body fat (−4.44% ± 2.00%), as well as a small decrease in heart rate (−2.56 ± 2.85 beats per minute), but with no significant changes to diet over the course of the study. Importantly, the decreases occurred when subjects were taking GCB [Green Coffee Bean Extract]. Body mass index for six subjects shifted from pre-obesity to the normal weight range (<25.00 kg/m2).

Conclusion:

The results are consistent with human and animal studies and a meta-analysis of the efficacy of green coffee extract in weight loss. The results suggest that GCB [Green Coffee Bean Extract] may be an effective nutraceutical in reducing weight in pre-obese adults, and may be an inexpensive means of preventing obesity in overweight adults.

All subjects completed the study and there were no side effects of using GCB [Green Coffee Bean Extract]. Regarding nutrient intake, there were no significant changes in calories, percentage carbohydrates, percentage fat, or percentage proteins at any time during the study.

In looking at the individual effects of the GCB [Green Coffee Bean Extract]; 16 of 16 lost weight, 16/16 had decreased percent body fat 16/16 had a reduction in BMI, 3/13 experienced a decrease in systolic blood pressure, and 5/16 a reduction in diastolic blood pressure.

At the completion of the study, results were 16 subjects lost an average of 17 pounds and 16% of their body fat, with ZERO changes to their diet or exercise over a 22 week period.

Study was performed at the University of Scranton, Pennsylvania

The recently completed double-blind clinical study, conducted at the University of California in 2010, involved healthy but overweight, non-obese non-diabetic individuals. This investigation intended to confirm the effects of AlphaFibe® on weight management and blood lipid levels, implicated in the development and pathogenesis of numerous disease states--including type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease in otherwise healthy individuals. Twenty-nine healthy adults (age: 43.9+/-13.3 yrs, 8 males) with a stable body weight in the previous month participated in this study. The mean BMI was 27.1 +/-2.1kg/m2 at the beginning of this double-blind, 1 month crossover study.

Unlike any other studied weight loss product, the participants did not follow a low-fat or low calorie diet. The study data showed significantly more weight loss with those using the active tablets compared to those using the placebo tablets. Levels of blood cholesterol, LDL (bad) cholesterol, and the atherogenic Apolipoprotein B level s showed significant reduction using the active tablets while HDL (good) cholesterol levels remained unchanged. Participants with high triglyceride levels reduced their blood cholesterol levels more than twice as much compared to participants with normal triglyceride levels. In addition, the higher the cholesterol levels, the greater the cholesterol reduction when using the active tablets. Using the active tablets showed significant reduction of blood insulin levels compared to those using the placebo tablets, which suggests a reduced risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Study was performed at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine

In 2008, the US Government National Institutes of Health found that high dietary intake of saturated fat and cholesterol, and elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels are some of the modifiable risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Alpha-Cyclodextrin (ACD®), when given orally, has been shown in rats to increase fecal saturated fat excretion and to reduce blood total cholesterol levels in obese hypertriglyceridemic subjects with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

In this study, the effects of dietary ACD® on lipid metabolism in low-density lipoprotein receptor knockout mice were investigated. Low-density lipoprotein receptor knockout mice were fed a “Western diet” (21% milk fat) with or without 2.1% of ACD® (10% of dietary fat content) for 14 weeks. At sacrifice, there was no difference in body weight; but significant decreases were observed in plasma cholesterol (15.3%), free cholesterol (20%), cholesterol esters (14%), and phospholipid (17.5%) levels in mice treated with ACD® compared with control mice. The decrease in total cholesterol was primarily in the proatherogenic apolipoprotein B-containing lipoprotein in fractions, with no significant change in the high-density lipoprotein fraction. Furthermore, ACD® improved the bloody fatty acid profile, reducing the saturated fatty acids (4.5%) and trans-isomers (11%), while increasing (2.5%) unsaturated fatty acids

In summary, the addition of ACD® improved the lipid profile by lowering proatherogenic lipoproteins and trans-fatty acids and by decreasing the ratio of saturated and trans-fatty acids to polyunsaturated fatty acids (-5.8%), thus suggesting that it may be useful as a dietary supplement for reducing cardiovascular disease.

Study was performed at the US National Institutes of Health Clinical Center, Maryland

BACKGROUND:

Obesity and diabetes have become an epidemic in US. Dietary fibers have been reported to reduce the absorption of dietary fat, prevent weight gain and reduce blood lipid levels. In the current double-blind study, obese patients with type 2 diabetes were recruited for a 3 month study to examine the health effects of a new dietary fiber AlphaFibe®.

METHODS:

In 2006, 66 participants were recruited and were randomized into AlphaFibe® or placebo groups. They were instructed to take two 1-g tablets per fat-containing meal and not to change their eating patterns or daily routine. Three-day dietary records and fasting blood samples were collected prior to enrollment in the study and at the end of months 1, 2 and 3.

RESULTS:

Dietary records showed that some participants changed their eating patterns; therefore body weight data were adjusted according to energy intake. As a group, in the 30 days leading into the study, all participants experienced an average weight gain of 1.0 ± 0.4 k. While those in the placebo group continued to gain weight during the study, those in the AlphaFibe® group maintained their weight. Those in the AlphaFibe® group required more energy to maintain their body weight, while those in the placebo group required less (p<0.05). Participants with hypertriglyceridemia showed a reduction (-0.48 ± 0.24 mmol/L, -8.2%) in total cholesterol with AlphaFibe, while those with the placebo group had an increase (0.24 ± 0.21 mmol/L, 5.2%, p<0.05). Adiponectin, the key weight loss hormone, was increased in the AlphaFibe® group but reduced in the placebo group (p<0.05).

CONCLUSION:

AlphaFibe® has thus shown promising benefits in weight maintenance, a reduction of blood lipids and an increase in adiponectin levels. Therefore, AlphaFibe® can easily be incorporated into any diabetic management regimen.

Summary:

This study was performed in 2005, at the Ehime University School of Medicine, Department of Medical Biochemistry in Japan, and showed that raspberry ketones helps prevent obesity and activate lipid metabolism.

Raspberry ketone (RK) is a major aromatic compound of red raspberry (Rubus idaeus). The structure of RK is similar to the structures of capsaicin and synephrine, compounds known to exert anti-obese actions and alter the lipid metabolism. To test the effect on obesity, our group designed the following in vivo experiments: 1) mice were fed a high-fat diet including 0.5, 1, or 2% of RK for 10 weeks; 2) mice were given a high-fat diet for 6 weeks and subsequently fed the same high-fat diet containing1% RK for the next 5 weeks. RK prevented the high-fat-diet-induced elevations in body weight and the weights of the liver and visceral adipose tissues (epididymal, retroperitoneal, and mesenteric). RK also decreased these weights and hepatic triacylglycerol content after they had been increased by a high-fat diet. RK significantly increased norepinephrine-induced lipolysis associated with the translocation of hormone-sensitive lipase from the cytosol to lipid droplets in rat epididymal fat cells.

Conclusion:

RK prevents obesity and fatty liver. These effects appear to stem from the action of RK in altering fat metabolism, or more specifically, in increasing norepinephrine-induced lipolysis in white adipocytes.

BACKGROUND:

In 2004, a human clinical study was performed at the Nutritional Physiology Research Center in Adelaide, Australia. This study evaluated the dose-response effects of Alpha-Cyclodextrin, a cyclic oligosaccharide, on the glycemic and insulinemic responses to the consumption of a standard carbohydrate meal.

METHODS:

In a double-blind, randomized, cross-over design, 10 healthy subjects consumed boiled white rice containing 50g of digestible carbohydrate to which 0 (control). 2. 5 or 10g of a-Cyclodextrin was added. Plasma glucose and insulin concentrations were determined prior to and for 2 hours after consumption of each meal.

RESULTS:

The area under the plasma glucose curve was negatively related to the dose of a-Cyclodextrin (r2 = 0.97, p = 0.02), with the areas being significantly reduced at the 5- and 10-gram doses compared with the control (p < 0.05). a-Cyclodextrin did not affect the area under the plasma insulin curve (p = 0.39). Higher doses of a-Cyclodextrin resulted in greater satiety, but were associated with reduced palatability and an increased incidence of minor gastrointestinal complaints (stomach ache, nausea, bloating).

CONCLUSION:

a-Cyclodextrin reduces the glycemic response to a standard carbohydrate meal in a dose-dependent manner and may be useful as an ingredient for reducing the glycemic impact of such foods.

The Safety, Efficacy, & Approval of ACD® “Smarter Fiber”

AlphaFibe® is approved for daily consumption by the World Health Organization and backed by Clinical Research and proven results.

The FDA designated the active ingredient in AlphaFibe®, Alpha-Cyclodextrin as “Generally Recognized As Safe” (GRAS).

The United States EPA established an exemption for the need to designate any maximum permissible level of Alpha-Cyclodextrin (ACD®) because of its safety.

In 2008, the US Government National Institutes of Health studied Alpha-Cyclodextrin (ACD®) and found it to be a “Smarter Fiber”. This government NIH research proved that the active ingredient in AlphaFibe® (ACD®), targets saturated (bad) fats while leaving unsaturated (good) fats alone.
